Why we only feature two providers

There are dozens of UK business banking and credit card providers, and we could earn commission from many of them. We deliberately don't. A page that endorses everything endorses nothing. Instead, we picked one business account (Tide) and one business credit card (Capital on Tap) that we'd genuinely recommend to a friend starting out — they're well-suited to the typical reader of this site (a new UK sole trader, freelancer or small limited company), have established track records, and offer products we've reviewed in depth.

That doesn't mean they're the best for everyone. If you handle a lot of cash, a high-street bank may suit you better. If you're an established business with strong financials, an Amex or your bank's commercial card may earn more. We say so in the reviews.

How we pick offers

Before we add a partner offer, we look at five things:

  • Fit for our readers. Is it sensible for a new or small UK business?
  • Transparency. Are fees, eligibility and terms clear before applying?
  • Regulation and safeguarding. Where is customer money held? Who regulates them?
  • User experience. Does the application and ongoing service work as advertised?
  • Reputation. Independent reviews, complaints data, and FCA register status.

Read the full process in our editorial policy. Commission rates don't change which products we feature — they only affect which providers we then approach for a partnership.

Things to check before applying

  • Current fees, interest rates, the Tide £200 free-cash referral terms, the Capital on Tap 7,500-points promo terms, and any offer expiry — these change frequently.
  • Eligibility requirements: UK residency, business stage, credit checks and personal guarantees.
  • Whether the relevant code is correctly applied: Tide referral code REFER200for the £200 free-cash offer, or Capital on Tap promo code SETTINGUP for the 7,500-points offer.
  • How customer money is held (safeguarded e-money vs FSCS-protected deposit).
  • Whether the provider offers the secondary features you need (FX, payment terminal, employee cards, lending).
Apply with the right expectations

The £200 Tide referral bonus and 7,500 Capital on Tap points are useful extras, but not a reason to choose the wrong product. Pick the account or card you'd want anyway, then make sure the relevant referral or promo code is applied and the current terms are met.

What we do with affiliate commission

Commission from these partnerships pays for site hosting, content production and tool development. It keeps everything else free. You can read our full affiliate disclosure for the specifics.

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on this page are affiliate or referral links. If you apply through them we may receive a commission, at no extra cost to you. This does not influence our editorial recommendations — see our editorial policy and affiliate disclosure.

Risk warning

Borrowing can put your business and personal finances at risk if not managed carefully. Only borrow what you can afford to repay. Credit is subject to status and eligibility. Check the latest fees, APR and terms with the provider before applying. This site does not provide financial advice.
